StatsBomb Hire Seth Partnow Ahead of US Expansion

Leading global sports data company StatsBomb has announced the hiring of former Milwaukee Bucks Director of Basketball Research Seth Partnow as an advisor as they near a US market launch.

StatsBomb have grown quickly to become a leading provider of data and analytics to the world’s soccer teams and now service over 100 organisations, including over half of the English Premier League and MLS.

Partnow joins on the cusp of the launch of a StatsBomb data product for the American football market at NCAA and NFL level. He brings with him extensive experience of the use of data within elite US sports organisations, having served with the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks from 2016-2019. He is the author of forthcoming book on the evolution of basketball analytics The Midrange Theory, and also writes regularly for The Athletic.

Partnow will report directly to CEO Ted Knutson and assist with StatsBomb’s football launch as well as consulting on wider strategy around the US sports market.

Speaking on the hire, CEO Knutson commented:

American sport was always going to be the next frontier for StatsBomb. We have made hugely successful inroads into the world soccer market, but to tackle the highly competitive world of US sports, we needed high calibre, specialised expertise. Seth brings this knowledge and more – he’ll be a critical part of our growth trajectory in the US, starting with the imminent launch of our American football product. We’re delighted to have him on board.

Partnow commented:

I’ve long admired StatsBomb’s work and innovation in the soccer data space. Between the processes StatsBomb has already developed and my experience in the field, I think we can continue to break new ground. I can’t wait to get started.
