StatsBomb was founded in January 2017 to provide data, analytics and consultancy to football clubs, media and gambling companies. StatsBomb continually undertake new research and are well known in the analytics industry for providing unique insights into the game of football. We have developed our own proprietary industry leading data collection and analytics software with a user-friendly high-vis front end.
StatsBomb have grown from our initial team of 3 at the start of 2017 to over 200 employees based in the UK, US and Egypt and are continuing to grow and expand our operation. We currently process over 300 games per week across 26 European and American leagues, with over 20 million events every day and cover more than 80 leagues globally.
About The Role
You will be working in a remote team including other software engineers, UI designers, 3D designers and a project manager working in an Agile environment, and you will also share best practice and insights with other product teams at StatsBomb. You will have access to industry leading senior engineers to help develop and hone your development skills as well as other leading technology disciplines such as Computer Vision, machine learning, database management, data streaming and many others.
We are a fast growing company, with an incredibly full roadmap and are therefore looking for someone who is driven, self-motivated, flexible and comfortable working at a fast pace delivering new functionality on a regular basis.
As well as having the required technical skills, communication is a critical skill especially as the team will be largely remote, so sharing progress and working collaboratively online will be a vital part of the role. The working culture at StatsBomb is creative, collaborative, open, and informal whilst maintaining high standards in working ethos and coding best practice. Attention to detail and ensuring our products are accessible to all users are critical to all front end development and we are looking for someone who is as happy perfecting the finer UI details as they are experimenting and testing new software.
Your technical skills:
- React, JSX, HTML, CSS
- Experience using state management (e.g. Redux, Contexts)
- Unit Testing
- Basic visualisation skills in SVG/D3/ggplot/Tableau or similar
- Experience working with complex relational databases
- Experience building responsive, touch enabled web applications
- Design-led, user experience focused UI development
- Experience with developing for production
- Experience with Linux servers
Other technical skills:
- AWS (Amplify, S3)
- Storybook, TailwindCSS, CSS-in-JS styling
- Commercial experience using a range of software languages (Mid level Developers: 3-5 years, Junior Developers: 1 year)
- Ideally a BSc in a CS / Science based degree, or equivalent knowledge
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team player, self-motivated, hard-working, keen to learn
- Basic understanding of football
- Experience of working in the sports media industry would be a bonus
Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 and a competitive stock option package.
